Open your account

Go to platform.claude.com and sign up with your business email.

This is the developer console, not the Claude chat app. A Claude Pro subscription is a different thing and does not power your app.

Put $5 of credit on it

Open Billing, add your card, and buy credit. The minimum is $5 and it is the smallest sensible start.

Do this before you make the key. With a zero balance the key is real but every answer fails.

Create the key

Open API keys, choose Create Key, and name it after your app so you always know what it belongs to.

Copy it right then. It is shown once and never again. It begins with sk-ant-.

Paste it into your app

Sign in to your app, open Console, find the card called The engine, and paste the key into the Anthropic box. Tap Connect.

We try it against your account before we save it, so a bad paste tells you on the spot instead of failing later in a customer's ear.

What it actually costs Pennies a conversation on the engine your app ships with, so $5 is enough to test it hard and then some. Your Console shows the running cost next to every business plugged in, so you are never guessing. And because you buy credit up front rather than handing over a card to bill later, your spend cannot run away from you.

OpenAI, if you prefer

Optional. Your app runs on either one, or both.

Open the account and fund it

Go to platform.openai.com, sign up, then add a payment method and credit under Billing. Same rule: no balance, no answers.

Create the key and paste it

Open API keys, create one, copy it while it is on screen. It begins with sk-. Paste it into the OpenAI box in your Console and tap Connect.

If you connect both Your Console has a switch for which engine answers. Leave it on auto and OpenAI takes the calls whenever its key is connected, with Anthropic there behind it. Pick one by name any time you like.

About that key

Treat it like a card number

Anyone holding it can spend on your account. Do not email it, do not text a photo of it, do not put it in a document you share.

Once it is in, it is locked away

We encrypt it before it touches the database and it is never shown back to anyone, not even to you. Your Console shows only the first few characters so you can tell which key is in there.

You can pull it any time

Delete it in your Anthropic or OpenAI account and it stops working everywhere that instant. Make a new one, paste it in, and you are running again in under a minute.
