The challenge

A game everybody plays and nobody built

Pluck is a three handed card game people have played for generations. Spades has an app. Bid whist has an app. Pluck had nothing, and his own circle had been telling him to build it for years.

He is a barber, not a developer. The rules live in the room, not in a book, and they change from table to table. Building it meant getting HIS version right, not a generic trick taking engine with the name changed.

Three handed, no partners

Eighteen books split nine, six and three by seat, so one player falling short is always another going over. That is where the pluck comes from.

The pluck itself

Whoever went over reaches into the hand of whoever fell short, and the plucker chooses what to take. Deciding what to give up is the whole skill.

A turn clock

Fifteen seconds a move, settable or off. Timeout auto-plays the safe card so one person cannot freeze a table.

A ladder you cannot buy

Ranked standings with every player card public, because a record nobody can see is just a private number.
